Mentor Students

Mentoring is transformational, and has been shown to increase student engagement in school and activities, elevate self-efficacy, and boost college and career outcomes.

We actively are seeking individuals – including alumni, parents, industry professionals and other community members – who are willing to support our students in the following three areas:

In-person Career Support

  • Speak in a classroom about your professional journey

  • Coach our entrepreneurship students

  • Host student interns

  • Be part of our Career Nights events

  • Provide in-person feedback to students as they develop their career and postsecondary plans
Coach students in the classroom as they explore different career paths

  • Host field trips to your workplace to facilitate authentic learning experiences and conversations for students

Virtual Project and Research Support

  • Provide guidance around student research and design challenges

  • Interactions could include sharing research resources, offering insight on project designs or giving feedback on final projects

  • Engagements would occur over a six- to 12-week period

  • Required time would be about 15 to 30 minutes of online interaction weekly

Virtual Career Support

  • Provide guidance as students develop their career and postsecondary plans

  • Interactions could include sharing insights and experiences about your career or providing feedback regarding the student’s college and career plans

  • Most engagements would last one to three weeks

  • Required time would be about 15 to 30 minutes of online interaction weekly

Our new online mentor matching program gives industry professionals the opportunity to change a student’s life through virtual and in-person mentoring.

Through our Mentor Matching Engine, you can share career experiences with a District 214 student interested in your field or give feedback to students working on industry-specific projects. We are looking for mentors spanning all career fields.

If you are interested in this life-changing initiative, we encourage you to sign up below. We will then be in touch with you within 48 hours to begin the process of matching you with a student and ask you to create a mentor profile.

In support of safety considerations for all individuals who are in contact with our students, a public record background check will be processed through the Mentor Matching Engine system.

Thank you for your support of our students and consideration of this initiative. Please contact us at careerdiscovery@d214.org with any questions.
